Montessori-Style Toys

A toy that does the playing is a toy a child watches. Montessori-style toys work the other way around: the object stays still and the child does the deciding. No lights telling them they got it right, no voice congratulating them, no next level. Just something in the hands with more than one thing to do with it, and enough quiet around it that the child can hear themselves think.

Put it on a low shelf where the child can reach it without asking anyone. Then leave the room and let it be boring for a while. Boredom is usually what gets picked up next, and it does not need any help from you to do its work.
