What comes with him is a whole phonics course: 148 cards in five ring-bound sets, printed on both sides, 592 words between them. The alphabet, short vowels, vowel pairs, consonant blends, and a phonics list, in that order.

Each card carries a full sentence too, not just a word, so it goes past naming things. The small ball fell off the wall. I have a blue blanket.

Six sheets of picture stickers come in the box and they go anywhere: the fridge door, the oven, the back of a chair, the arm of the couch. They Start Saying The Words

One mother filmed a few weeks of this and said she had never heard her daughter talk as much. Another one, whose little girl was only just learning new words, called him one of their favourite learning tools.

Nothing clever happens. He names the picture out loud, in a clear American voice, and then he waits. Your child hears the word, tries it, and goes looking for the next one. That loop is the whole product, and a three-year-old can run it without you.

Set him on the picture, he says the word. Ball. Then your child says it back, and asks for it again, and again, which is exactly how a word is learned at three.

Questions before you buy

Do the cards go inside him?

No. There is no slot, and nothing to push in. You set him down on the card, or on a sticker, and the reader under his feet does the rest. That is why the stickers work just as well on a fridge door as the cards do on a table.

What age is it for?
