Nineteen coloured bulbs answer them, one for one, every press and every flick. And the black cord unplugs and plugs back in, which somehow ends up being the part they keep coming back to.

Every control asks for a different grip. Pinch the key, push the toggle, twist the knob, press the dome flat with a whole palm. That is fine motor practice wearing a light show as a disguise.

Does it need batteries?

Two AAA, and they are not in the box. They sit under the illustrated panel at the top of the board, which slides off. Nothing to plug in and nothing to charge.

What age is it for?

The maker lists it from 18 months. The key pulls out of its barrel and the cord unplugs, so it is made for a child who is past putting everything in their mouth. Worth a look yourself before you hand it over the first time.

What is the black cord for?

It is a jack. It plugs into the socket on the side and pulls straight back out, and that turns out to be the part most children keep going back to. It is not a charging cable, the board runs on the two AAA batteries.

How big is it?
