Description

Nineteen pieces so a child can cook beside you instead of watching from the doorway. Three nylon knives in three sizes, two boards with carry handles, a beech crocodile knife, a peeler, scissors, tongs, a crinkle cutter, a bear press, four metal shape cutters and three dough scrapers.

The blades are nylon with fine serrations. They go through cucumber, banana, strawberry and cooked potato, and they stay gentle on a small hand, so a three-year-old can hold one while you stay where you are.

Everything rinses under the tap and goes back in the box. Nothing to assemble, nothing to charge, and no screen anywhere near it.

She Learns A Real Knife Safely

She stops watching from the doorway and starts standing at the counter.

The blades are nylon with fine teeth. They go through a cucumber, a banana, a strawberry, and they stay gentle on a small hand. You hand one over and stay where you are.

That single moment is what changes. A child who has been trusted with a knife carries herself differently for the rest of the evening.
He Builds The Skills His Hands Need

He Builds The Skills His Hands Need

Every cut is fine motor work, disguised as dinner.

Three knife sizes mean a four-year-old starts with both hands on the small one and reaches for the big one two years later. The handles are moulded for a small palm, in three colours, so each child at the table knows which one is his.

Gripping, pressing, guiding, peeling: the hand strength that later shows up in handwriting is built here, and he thinks he is just helping.
She Finds A New Favourite Food

She Finds A New Favourite Food

A child who cut the cucumber eats the cucumber.

The shape cutters turn a slice of melon into a star. The crinkle cutter waves a carrot. The bear press makes a sandwich worth photographing. Suddenly vegetables are something she made, not something she was given.

This is the part parents write about. The peeler gives her a job she can finish alone, the second board gives her a surface of her own, and dinner becomes something the two of you do together.

Questions before you buy

Will the blades cut my child?

They are nylon, not metal, with fine serrations along the edge. That tooth is what goes through a cucumber, a banana or a strawberry, and it is also why it stops at skin instead of opening it. It is the reason a child can hold one while you stay where you are. It will not cut a raw squash or a steak, and that is deliberate.

What age is it for?

From three years old, with you in the room. There are three knives at 220, 245 and 275 millimetres: a small child starts on the shortest one with both hands, and reaches for the biggest two or three years later. The same set carries a child through several years rather than being outgrown in a season.

What exactly is in the box?

Nineteen pieces: three nylon knives, two plastic cutting boards at 11.4 and 7.4 inches, a beech wood knife for soft food, a crinkle cutter that turns a carrot into a wavy stick, a peeler, safety scissors and six small metal shape cutters.

How do I clean it?

Under the tap with a little soap, and it goes back in the box. Nothing is coated or painted, so there is nothing to wear off. We do not recommend the dishwasher for the beech knife, which is the only wooden piece.

How long does delivery take?

We prepare orders within 24 to 48 hours, then delivery runs 8 to 15 days with tracking. Shipping is $9.95, free over $80.
