Description

They will ask to go outside. That is the whole point.

It is a fighter jet cut out of thick EPP foam, with four rotors sunk flat into the wing and a coloured light ring around each one. It lifts off a flat hand, holds its own height, and comes back down on one button. No runway, no throwing, no crashing it into the fence on the first go.

Push the stick and it rolls all the way over. Hold the other one and it circles whatever it is flying around. Three speeds, so it starts slow enough for a first flight and gets quick enough to stay interesting.

Foam takes the hits. It bounces off a hedge, off a wall, off the garage door, and goes back up. The battery pops out and charges over USB-C, and four spare propellers come in the box.

The Afternoon Takes Care of Itself

The Afternoon Takes Care of Itself

There is a point in every Saturday where somebody has to think of something. This is the something.

It goes in the yard, it goes to the park, and it holds a nine-year-old's whole attention because flying it well is genuinely hard for about a week. You can stand there and watch, or you can go back inside. Both are allowed.
It Takes Off From a Flat Hand

It Takes Off From a Flat Hand

One press and it lifts off, then holds its height on its own while they work out what the sticks do. One more press and it comes back down. There is no run-up, no throw, and nothing to line up.

Three speeds, so the first flight is slow and forgiving and the tenth one is not. When it goes somewhere it should not, the emergency stop cuts it dead.
Foam Takes the Hit, Not the Toy

Foam Takes the Hit, Not the Toy

The whole airframe is EPP foam, the thick kind with the visible beads. Nose rounded, edges rounded, rotors sunk into the wing instead of sticking out on arms.

It hits the hedge, it hits the fence, it drops on the lawn, and it goes back up. Four spare propellers come in the box for the day one of them does not.

Questions before you buy

What age is it for?

We mark this one 8 and up, and that is our call: the maker prints 14 and up. Eight is where a child can work two sticks at once and remember to land before the battery runs out. Younger than that, fly it together.

Does it need to be registered with the FAA?

The FAA's registration rule for recreational flyers starts at 250 grams, about 8.8 ounces. This is a foam toy that weighs a small fraction of that. Rules change and they are yours to check, but this is not the class of aircraft that rule was written for.

How long does it fly?

The supplier states 5 to 10 minutes per charge. The battery is a module that pops out and charges over USB-C with the cable in the box, so a second one turns one flight into two.

Will it survive a crash?

The airframe is EPP foam, the thick kind with visible beads, and the four rotors sit sunk into the wing rather than out on arms. It bounces off hedges and walls. Four spare propellers come in the box for the day one of them does not.

How long does delivery take?

We pack within 24 to 48 hours, then 8 to 15 days to your door, tracked the whole way. Shipping is $9.95 flat per order, free over $60.
