A whole small world in a case with a lid: soft kinetic sand, a set of moulds, the little tools that go with them, and a handful of stones that glow once the light goes off. Eighteen accessories in all. You open it on the rug, and a child who was asking for a tablet ten seconds ago is digging.
The sand is the reason it works. It clings to itself instead of to hands, so it packs into a castle and holds, then crumbles back and packs again. It never dries out, there is nothing to mix and nothing to add, and it stays in the tray instead of travelling across the room. When play is over the lid clicks back on and the whole set goes on a shelf, sand included, ready for the next time.
Three worlds to choose from. Construction comes with diggers, dump trucks, traffic cones and a road sign, and castle moulds to bulldoze. Dinosaur has a volcano, eggs in a nest and a herd of small dinosaurs to bury and dig back out. Questions before you buy
No. It is a kinetic sand, which means it is coated so it clings to itself rather than to the air. There is nothing to mix and nothing to add, and it will not harden into a block between two rainy afternoons. Close the lid and it is exactly as you left it.
Far less than loose play sand, and that is the reason parents film it. The sand lifts out in a lump and drops back in a lump, it is low dust, and the walls of the tray keep it in. Some grains do escape onto the rug and they sweep or vacuum up. Playing on a hard floor or a mat makes the last two minutes quicker.
Three years and up, which is the rating the maker gives it and the one we keep. The set holds small vehicles, small figures and small stones, so it is not for a child who is still putting things in their mouth. Above three it is a set a child can open, play with and put away on their own.
They are phosphorescent, not electric. Leave them under a lamp or in daylight for a few minutes, then switch the light off, and they glow green for a while before fading. Charge them again as often as you like. There is no battery and nothing to replace.
