Description

You throw it, it comes back. That is the whole afternoon, right there.

It is a light-up orb about the size of a grapefruit. Switch it on, give it a spin, and let go: it lifts, it curves, and it drops back into an open hand like a boomerang. Nothing to pair, nothing to learn, no app on your phone.

The trick is that it is genuinely hard to get good at. The first throws go sideways. By the tenth they are curving it round the yard on purpose, and that is the part that holds a nine-year-old for an hour instead of ten minutes.

Coloured lights run right through the shell, so it works after dinner, in the back yard, in the hallway. It charges over USB from anything you already own.

It Buys You the Rest of the Afternoon

It Buys You the Rest of the Afternoon

There is a moment around four o'clock where somebody has to come up with something. This is the something.

It goes in the back yard, it goes to the park, it goes down the hallway when it rains. And because throwing it well takes real practice, they stay out there working on it. You can stand and watch, or you can go finish your coffee. Both count.
Spin It, Let Go, Hold Your Hand Out

Spin It, Let Go, Hold Your Hand Out

One switch turns it on. Spin the ball, let it go, and it climbs and curves away from you. Put a flat hand under it and it settles back down.

Angle the throw and it loops back like a boomerang. Cup both hands around it and it hovers between them. There is nothing to pair, no controller to lose under the sofa, and no phone involved anywhere.
The Lights Are the Point After Dinner

The Lights Are the Point After Dinner

Coloured LEDs sit inside the shell and show through the lattice, so a thrown ball draws a bright line across a dark yard. That is when it stops being a toy and starts being the reason four kids are outside in October.

It charges over USB from a phone charger, a power bank or a laptop. The cable is in the box.

Questions before you buy

What age is it for?

We mark this one 8 and up, and that is our call: the maker prints three different ages on the same listing and none of them agree. Eight is where a child can judge a throw, keep it away from faces and remember to plug it in afterwards. Younger than that, throw it together outside.

How do you control it?

With your hands. Switch it on, spin the ball, let go, and it climbs and curves. Hold a flat hand under it and it comes back down; angle the throw and it loops round like a boomerang. There is no app, nothing to pair and no controller to lose under the sofa.

How long does it fly on one charge?

The supplier states 6 to 8 minutes of flight for 30 to 35 minutes of charging. It charges over USB from a phone charger, a power bank or a laptop, and the cable is in the box, so it goes back on while they have a drink.

Is it going to hurt when it hits something?

The moving parts sit inside the plastic lattice shell rather than out in the open, and the whole thing is about the size of a grapefruit. It bumps off walls and hedges and keeps going. It is still a toy that flies, so it belongs outdoors or in a room with space, not across a dinner table.

How long does delivery take?

We pack within 24 to 48 hours, then 8 to 15 days to your door, tracked the whole way. Shipping is $9.95 flat per order, free over $60.
