Description

A castle takes longer to build than a tower, and that is the point of this box. Forty soft blocks land on the rug, the room goes quiet, and the coffee is still warm when you get back to it.

The Jelly Blocks set is the other half of the shelf. Flat bars, nothing themed, build whatever comes to mind. This one hands them a destination instead.

A tower is done in a minute. A castle is not. There are walls to close, a gate to leave open, and a spire that has to go on last, and none of that happens in the time it takes you to boil water.

So you put the box down on the rug and you go do the thing you were going to do. When you come back there are four towers up and a kid deciding where the door goes. Nobody asked for the tablet.

Most block sets hand a kid a pile and leave the rest to them. This one hands them a spire, and a spire has to go somewhere. Somewhere means a tower. A tower means a wall to hold it up, and a wall means a gate, and by the time the gate has a door they have been down there twenty minutes and asked you for nothing.

That is what the shapes are for. They do not teach a kid to build. They give the building somewhere to go.

Pinch a block between a thumb and a finger and it gives, the way a gum drop gives, then springs back square enough to sit on the next one. That is the part they keep doing while they work out what to build.

And the fiddly bit, seating a spire in its crown without knocking the tower over, is the bit they will do forty times in an afternoon and get visibly better at. When the castle comes down at the end of the week, the pieces go in the sink.
